Whitney Fountain was named the associate head coach to the Tennessee State track and field men's and women's programs December 2, 2019. Prior to leading the historic Tigerbelles and Flying Tigers, Fountain spent three sesasons as the assistant at Tennessee Tech.

Fountain made an immediate impact in her first year with the Golden Eagles and played a pivotal role in their indoor/outdoor sweep of the 2018 Ohio Valley Conference track and field championships – the first two titles in school history. She also helped guide the Golden Eagles to a second-straight indoor title at the OVC Championships in 2019.

Fountain trained four members of the TTU women’s track and field team in her debut season, oversaw several broken school records as well as coached Tech athletes who captured conference champion titles in three different events. The Bronx, N.Y. native has experience coaching collegiate athletes in short and medium distances as well as in the long and triple jump.

Fountain arrived at Tech following a stint on the coaching staff at Clemson University, her alma mater.

Prior to coaching, she was a highly decorated athlete for the Tigers’ track and field team. She not only won the 2013 ACC Championship in the heptathlon, but also earned all-conference acclaim in the 60, long jump, triple jump and pentathlon. At the time her eligibility expired, Fountain ranked among the top 10 in Clemson history in six different events, the 60, high jump, long jump, triple jump, pentathlon and heptathlon.

During her stint as a Tiger, she was a member of several successful teams. The Clemson women won ACC Indoor and Outdoor Championships with Fountain on board in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2015. She graduated in December 2014 with a bachelor's in sociology.

In high school, Fountain was the New York state record holder in the heptathlon, pentathlon and the indoor 200-meter dash.
