Tigerbelles, Flying Tigers Conclude Day Two of GA Tech Invite


NASHVILLE — The Tennessee State Track and Field team concluded day two of the Georgia Tech Invitational on a high note thanks to high performances in the field.

Amani Taylor and Mikayla Thompson both earned second place finishes in field events for the Tigerbelles. Taylor was the first to finish near the top in the discus throw with a mark of 44.32m. Thompson placed eighth (38.69).

Thompson nabbed her second-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 14.51m.

Lakeia Hill continued her level of consistency in the hurdles as she finished sixth in the 400-meter hurdles. The Tigerbelles had a solid showing in the triple jump with four student-athletes to place.

For the Flying Tigers, the talented group had three student-athletes to place fourth in three respective events.

Ashley Bailey burned around the track to a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 53.13. R’Lazon Brumfield placed fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 14.96 and Michael Willingham Jr. showed his strength in the discus with a mark of 45.44 to finish in fourth.

Brumfield also placed 11th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.27.
