Tigerbelles in Third Place at OVC Championship

NASHVILLE — The Tennessee State women’s track and field team concluded day one of the Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Championship in Birmingham, Ala. in third place.

Junior Amani Taylor gave the Tigerbelles a major boost with a second place finish in the weight throw. Taylor tossed a distance of 17.96m (58-11.25). Mikayla Thompson placed eight in the weight throw (16.35m).

The Tigerbelles started to gain more steam as the championship meet continued on thanks to a third-place finish in the long jump by Grenetria Shell. Shell cleared a distance of 5.90m (19-04.25) to finish in the top-5 at third. Gabrielle Younginer finished fifth in the long jump at 5.75m (18-10.50).

Prelims for running events also took place and the final runs will begin a 12:30 p.m. on Thursday. Field Events begin at 9 a.m.
