STARTING LINE: Tennessee State University women’s track and field standouts Clairwin Dameus (Boynton Beach, Fla.) and Amber Hughes (Atlanta, Ga.) will represent the Tigerbelles at the NCAA Outdoor Championships at Hayward Field at the University of Oregon this week. Dameus will compete in the heptathlon, while Hughes will take on the field in the triple jump.
NATIONAL SPOTLIGHT: Friday and Saturday's action will air on ESPN for the national audience.

HOW THEY GOT HERE: Amber Hughes placed fifth at the NCAA East Preliminary Round in the triple jump with a distance of 13.50m on her second attempt. Clairwin Dameus made the field in the heptathlon after scoring a career high 5729 points at the Bulldog Heptathlon in early April.
CHAMPIONSHIP EXPERIENCE: Clairwin Dameus is competing in the NCAA Championships for the fourth time in her career. She placed 21st in the heptathlon as a sophomore at the 2014 NCAA Outdoor Championships. She went on to take 11th in the long jump at the Outdoor Championships the following season. At the 2016 NCAA Indoor Championships, Dameus earned sixth place in the long jump and eighth place in the pentathlon. For Amber Hughes, it will be her third NCAA competition after taking 20th in the 100m hurdles at last year’s NCAA Outdoor Championships and fourth in the triple jump at this year’s NCAA Indoor Championships.
