Dameus Sets Personal Records, Earns Fourth Place at Bulldog Heptathlon


ATHENS, Ga. – Clairwin Dameus (Boynton Beach, Fla.) earned fourth place in a challenging field at the Bulldog Heptathlon as the Tennessee State women’s track and field team’s lone representative at the event on Thursday. Dameus won the long jump and set personal records in the javelin and 800m on the day.

Entering Thursday in fifth place, Dameus jumped up to fourth, finishing with a personal record score of 5,729 points to best her previous record of 5,399 from the 2014 OVC Outdoor Championship.

In the first event of the day, Dameus produced a winning distance in the long jump of 6.23m (20’9”) to pick up 949 points toward her total. The distance, which came on her second attempt on the day, is the best for Dameus at an outdoor event in her collegiate career. Her personal record for the long jump is 6.44m from the 2016 OVC Indoor Championship.

The senior established a new personal best in the javelin on the day, reaching 39.27m (128’10”) on her third and final attempt for 653 points. The distance earned her third in the event and is slightly ahead of her previous best of 38.74m (127’1”) from this season’s Black and Gold Invitational.

Dameus put together another personal record in the 800m, clocking in at 2:20.36, good enough for fifth place and 819 points. Prior to Thursday, Dameus’ best in the 800m was 2:20.84.

For the event, Quintunya Chapman posted a score of 6,039 points to take first place.
