STARTING LINE: TSU will use the Samford Invitational as the final meet to get ready for the Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Championship, which will be held Feb. 26-27 at the Gentry Center.

LAST TIME OUT: The Tigerbelles continued their strong indoor season at last weekend’s MTSU Invitational. Amber Hughes (Atlanta, Ga.) clocked in at 7.04 in the 55m to take first and tie a personal record for the event. Clairwin Dameus (Boynton Beach, Fla.), who took third in the 55m (7.12), went on to win the 200m (25.14).

Angel Davis (Decateur, Ga.) once again dominated the throwing events, winning the shot put (13.26m) and the weight throw (16.74m). In the high jump, Sharmil Whyatt (Vilseck, Germany) tied for the best performance on the day by clearing 1.65m. Amber Townsend (Atlanta, Ga.) also tied for the top distance in the triple jump (12.10m).

AT LAST YEAR’S EVENT: Amber Hughes (Atlanta, Ga.) led the way at last year’s Samford Invitational by winning the 60m hurdles (8.43), triple jump (12.16m) and helping take home first place in the 4x400m relay (3:46.84). Hughes also clocked the fastest time in the OVC of 24.56 seconds in the 200m, finishing the event in fourth place.

Christian Pryor (Detroit, Mich.) placed fourth in the 800m (2:13.53), and Clairwin Dameus (Boynton Beach, Fla.) took second in the long jump (5.99m).  

UP NEXT: TSU hosts the Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Championship on Feb. 26-27 at the Gentry Center.
