Women's Tennis Will Wrap Up Season on Senior Day

TENNESSEE STATE vs MARTIN METHODIST

OPENING SERVE: 

The TSU women’s tennis team will conclude its 2017 spring season with a match against Martin Methodist at Hadley Park at 3 p.m. It is senior day for Taylor Patterson who will compete in her last match as a Tiger.

LAST TIME OUT: 

The Tennessee State women’s tennis team earned its first Ohio Valley Conference victory of the season, defeating Jacksonville State by a 4-3 final score Saturday afternoon. TSU started the day by winning the doubles point. Ani Popiashvili teamed up with Abhilasha Vishwanath to earn a 6-1 win at No. 2. The pairing of Taylor Patterson and Phyllicia Hemphill captured the point with a 6-0 victory at No. 3.

At No. 1 singles, Popiashvili played her way to a hard-fought victory over Genevie Ulanday, 6-3, 7-6. The Tigers picked up another victory at No. 5 singles courtesy of Hemphill thanks to a straight set 6-0, 6-0 win. Closing out the victory, Phoenix Gandy won her match by default at the No. 6 position.

ABOUT MARTIN METHODIST: 

The Redhawks are 6-6 on the season, with a 6-4 conference record. Martin Methodist’s team is made up of seven players. Melinda Sevier is in her 19th season leading the team.
