OPENING SERVE: 

The TSU women’s tennis team hits the road for two straight matches this week. Tennessee State will go around the corner to take on Belmont on Thursday, Apr. 13 at 2:00 pm. The Tigers will then head to face the Gamecocks of Jacksonville State in Jacksonville, Ala. on Saturday Apr. 15 at 11:00 am.

LAST TIME OUT: 

The Tigers defeated Arkansas Pine Bluff 6-0 on Tuesday afternoon. In doubles action, TSU’s Taylor Patterson and Phoenix Gandy cruised to a 6-2 victory over Taylor Shaw and Tia Thomas in No. 1 doubles action, while Ashia Jones and Phyllicia Hemphill made quick work of Jasmine Shankar and Belen Salazar Yanez by winning 6-0 in a No. 2 doubles win.

The Tigers’ strong play carried over to singles where TSU earned straight-set victories in four matches. All of the members of the women’s team won by 6-0, 6-0 scores. The Tigers dominated in every fashion and put together a complete team effort for the win. The win is the second in three matches for TSU.

ABOUT BELMONT:

Belmont comes into the match with a 3-15 record overall and a 1-6 conference record. Abbie Mather and Kendall Warren both pace the team with seven singles wins this season. The Bruins are on a six game losing streak. Last season the Tigers got their first conference win since 2001 against the Bruins.

ABOUT JACKSONVILLE STATE: 

The Gamecocks are 4-15 on the season with a 0-7 conference record. JSU is led by Head Coach Andres Amores. Jacksonville State has six members that make up its team.

UP NEXT: The Tigers will close out the season on Monday Apr. 17 at Hadley Park on Senior Day. Match time is set for 3 pm.
