MURFREESBORO, Tenn. --- The Tennessee State women’s tennis team put together another good day at the ITA Regional Championships on Friday at the Adams Tennis Complex with three singles wins and one doubles victory.

Pragati Natraj (Bangalore, India) and Abhilisha Vishwanath (Bangalore, India) secured wins in singles and doubles action on day two of the competition. Ani Popiashvili (Tbilisi, Georgia) also came away victorious in singles on Friday.

Facing OVC opponent Jeanne Masson from Murray State, Natraj played her way to a 6-4, 7-5 victory. Vishwanath also had an impressive victory, taking down Big East opponent Jocelyn Koester of Butler in a hard-fought 6-4, 1-6, 10-4 win.

In her singles match, Popiashvili cruised to a straight-set 6-2, 6-2 victory against IUPUI's Samantha Mayer.

Going toe-to-toe with Zoe Manion and Vanina Iordanova from Xavier, who won the Big East last season, the all-sophomore pairing of Vishwanath and Natraj scored an 8-2 victory.

“Overall, today was a good day,” TSU Head Coach Monroe Walker III said. “We had four wins from all the girls. Ani (Popiashvili) continues to play well, and Abhi (Vishwanatha) pulled off a tough three setter Versus Butler. Pragati (Natraj) rebounded today to get a victory from a team in the conference. It was a much needed win for her. Also for Gati and Abhi to beat a team from the Big East champions was huge. Zina (Graves) had a close match but this should show her how much work she needs to put in if she wants to compete at the top of the lineup. Phyllicia (Hemphill) played Belmont’s No. 1, and she was in every game but couldn't convert on any of her nine deuce games. We look forward to tomorrow and competing.”

Play at the ITA Regional Championships continues tomorrow.
