Five Tigers to Compete at ITA Regionals for First Time in School History

SETTING THE STAGE: The Tennessee State women’s tennis team will compete in the ITA REGIONAL tournament this week in the last tennis matches of the fall.

LAST SET PLAYED: Freshman Zina Graves and sophomore Ani Popiashvili would both capture singles wins against Missouri State. The two would then pair up to earn the Tigers lone doubles win. Sophomores Pragati Natraj and Abhilasha Vishwanath would join forces and drop a close doubles match by a score of (7-6).

TOURNAMENT PREVIEW: The ITA is an invite only tennis tournament that is held annually. Tennessee State women’s tennis team has achieved another milestone this season. This year marks the first time in TSU history that tennis will compete in the event. The top 64 players in the Ohio Valley region will compete for a chance to play in the ITA Nationals in New York. Tennessee State will have five players competing in the tournament. Those players include Zina Graves, Ani Popiashvili, Pragati Natraj, Abhilasha Vishwanath and Phyllicia Hemphill.

UP NEXT: The ITA Regionals will complete fall tennis for the Tigers. They will begin play again February 5 against Jackson State.
