EVANSVILLE, Ind. --- The Tennessee State women's golf team returned to the course for the first round of the Charles Braun Jr. Intercollegiate on Monday. The Tigers carded a 75-over, 363, on day one and are in 13th place.

Kalee Rhodes and Morgan Rood led TSU with identical scores of 16-over, 88. Rhodes carded the only birdie of the day for the Big Blue, registering the score-cutter on the par-4, 14th.

Rood hit 11 of 14 fairways on the day and found eight greens in regulation. The juniors highlight came on the par-5, 6th. Rood hit a 3-wood off the tee box and layed up just in front of the water with a 9-iron. The Lynwood, Wash. product came up short on the approach shot and rolled back down the hill leaving 15 yards. Rood’s chip went pass the hole, but saved par as she drained the downhill, right-to-left putt.

Haleigh Riley and Savannah Szozda recorded countable rounds for the Tigers on Monday. Riley came up short on her approach shot on the par-4, 18th, and converted the up-and-down to save par by sinking an eight foot putt.

Dhani McDowell missed scoring for the Tigers through the first 18 holes with a 100.

Up Next: The Tigers will play the final round of the Charles Braun Jr. Intercollegiate on Tuesday. The round will begin with a shotgun start at 10:00 a.m.
