MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. --- Day one of the Ohio Valley Conference Championship kicked off with the first group teeing off as the thermometer read 37 degrees. Savannah Szozda was the first to take the course with her grouping of players from Morehead State and Eastern Illinois. The sun started to break through over an hour into the round and saw the temperature reach 51 on the day.

Carson Racich led the Tigers on day one with an 8-over, 80, which puts her in tie for 21st with two rounds to play. Racich ran into trouble on the final two holes of the day, as she bogeyed No. 17 and doubled on No. 18, bumping her down from eighth place.

The freshman dropped a stroke on the first hole of the day, only to move back to even a hole later after hitting a 9-iron from 139 yards out to seven feet of the pin, setting up her lone birdie of the day. Racich had to take a drop from the long grass on No. 3, but hit out with a 9-iron from 140 to three feet for a tap in par.

“Overall today I felt like I played well,” Racich said. “My score didn't reflect the game. I came back after a rough front and was sitting well until the last two holes. I had fun and enjoyed the day despite the weather. Tomorrow I'm going out knowing I'm still in contention because only a few shots separate the top 15 from my current position.”

Morgan Rood (91), Dhani McDowell (94) and Haleigh Riley (97) all scored for the Tigers, as Savannah Szozda (98) missed out by a stroke. McDowell highlighted her day on the par-3, 2nd. The first-year hit a 6-iron from 139 yards, pushing right to 20 feet of the flag. McDowell rolled her putt over the right edge of the cup, missing birdie. She was able to convert the three foot putt for par.
