Haleigh Riley Celebrates after Sinking a Shot from 79 Yards Out

Final Results

--- The Tennessee State women’s golf team finished seventh place at the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate at the Sevierville Golf Club. Savannah Szozda carded her career best 76 during the final round to lead the Tigers on the final day to help the team post a 331, the best round for TSU at the BNI.

Savannah Szozda (89-90-76=255) made a charge on the final day with a career low, 4-over, 76. Szozda opened with a double bogey on the second hole of the final round. The freshman would get even with a birdie of the next hole. Szozda found the fairway off the tee box and continued down the fairway on the par-5 with a 3-wood. The Kingston, Tenn. native stuck a wedge shot from 89 yards out to seven feet from the flag, setting up a birdie putt. Szozda settled in and carded 12 pars over the final 16 holes.

Haleigh Riley (94-97-102=293) registered a non-scoring 102, but made the shot of the day for the Tigers. After finding the water off the tee box on the par-4, 5th, Riley hit her third shot into the middle of the fairway. Riley would save par as her shot from 79-yards out landed two feet from the flag before finding the bottom of the cup to save par.

Morgan Rood (89-86-84=259) took a 10 on the ninth hole of the day putting the freshman at 12-over for the day. Rood closed out the round with nine consecutive pars, remaining at 12-over on Tuesday. The Lynnwood, Wash. product picked up three birdies and two up-and-downs.

Natalie Spicer (85-84-85=254) hit nine fairways and seven greens on her way to six pars and a birdie. Spicer earned her birdie on the par 3, 16th, as she hit her 3-hybrid to eight feet of the hole.

Paige Harlin (89-88-86=263) posted the final scoring round for the Tigers as she hit nine of 12 fairways. Harlin began the round by hitting her second shot on the par-4, 12th, left of the green. The sophomore putted from off the green to two feet and made par.

The Tigers will be back in action on Friday, Mar. 24 as they face Lipscomb in a duel match at the Ted Rhodes Golf Course.
