OWENS CROSS ROADS, Ala. – The Tennessee State women’s golf team closed out the season on Wednesday at the 2015 Ohio Valley Conference golf championships. The Tigers finished in 10th place on the Par-72, 6,050 yard Hampton Cove on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail.
Eastern Kentucky came from behind to snatch the team title away from Jacksonville State by one stroke.
The Colonels Sofie Levin secured the individual honors as she shot a 4-under, 68, to edge out Murray State’s Minta Yin by one stroke.
Natalie Spicer once again led the Tigers as she entered the clubhouse with an 87. Sarah Needleman, who carded the Tigers low on Tuesday, finished the final round with an 88.
Spicer (77-86-87=250) recorded the lone birdie of the day for the Tigers as she hit a 4-hybrid off the tee at the par-3, 8th and sunk a downhill slider from 15 feet out. The sophomore finished with 10 fairways, eight greens and seven pars.
Needleman (91-79-88=258) was very efficient off the box on Wednesday as she hit 13-of-14 fairways, but was not able to stay as consistent hitting just five greens. The junior was able to collect up-and-downs on No. 9, No. 11 and No. 14.
Laura Bremer (93-97-91=281) got on the scoreboard for TSU during the final round as she posted the third best score for the squad. On the day, Bremer used 30 putts as she hit seven fairways and two greens.
Kelly Merkel (80-86-95=261) and Imani Stingley (91-90-95=276) each walked off the 18th green with matching 95’s, as they both hit six fairways and six greens on Wednesday.
