Women's golf opens season at Drake Creek Invitational

Nashville --- The Tennessee State University women's golf team will open up the 2011 campaign at the Drake Creek Invitational hosted by Ohio Valley Conference member Murray State.

The tournament is scheduled to begin on Monday, Sept. 12 and will continue through Tuesday. Monday calls for 36 holes of play starting at 8:30 a.m. while Tuesday's final round starts at the same time on the 6,178 yard, par-72 course.

Drake Creek Golf Club, established in 1999, was designed by renowned golf architect Rich Osborne and constructed by Holmes and Company, the same company that built English Turn in New Orleans, Pinehurst National, and Grand Cypress in Orlando among others.

 There will be ten teams participating in the tournament including Austin Peay, Belmont, Eastern Kentucky, Morehead State, Murray State, Northern Kentucky, Lipscomb, Tennessee State, Tennessee Tech and Western Kentucky.

The Drake Creek Invitational is in its third year. Last year, Morehead State took home the 2010 title with a score of 893.
