Women's cross country begins season at UTC PowerAde Invitational

Nashville, Tenn. - The Tennessee State University women's cross country team will open the 2010 season in Chattanooga, Tenn. when they travel to compete in the PowerAde Invitational hosted by the UT Chattanooga.

The 2-mile race is scheduled to take place at the Moccasin Bend Race Course on Friday, September 10th at 5:30 p.m.

With the loss of top performers Jaleeca and Jasmine Jacobs, the Tigerbelles will look to experienced runners, senior Martinique Guice, junior Daniell Exum and sophomores Kenisha Ladler, Gabrielle Todd, and Kya Riley to better a fifth-place finish in last year's event.

Among the returners, Ladler posted the best time of 16:33 and finished 37th, Todd finished 38th with a time of 16:59, and Riley clocked in at 17:56 and ended up in 39th place.  Exum recorded a time of 19:05, and Guice registered a time of 19:45 respectively.

Other teams competing in the invitational include: Austin Peay State, Middle Tennessee State, Covenant College, Lipscomb, Alabama-Huntsville, West Georgia and Kennesaw State will field both men and women teams. The University of Alabama will only field their men's team.

The Tigerbelles return to action when they go across town to compete in the Commodore Classic hosted by Vanderbilt University on September 18. The event will be held at Percy Warner Park and is slated to begin at 10 a.m.
