Tigerbelles finish up at OVC Championship

Murray, Ky. - The Tennessee State University Tigerbelles finished the 2011 OVC Outdoor Track and Field Championship in seventh with 34.5 points in the team rankings.

Daniecce Ward posted the best finish on the final day in an individual event. Ward recorded a career jump of 37"5.75 (11.42m) to finish third overall in the triple jump.

The 4x400m relay team (Gabrielle Todd, Ashley Taylor, Daniell Exum, Kya Riley) also grabbed third with a time 3:50.33 to close out competition.

Other scores included additional points on the day in the 100m, 400m, 800m and hammer throw.

After winning the long jump on day one, Martinique Guice finished seventh in the 100m with a time of 12.26s.

In the 400m, Gabrielle Todd and Ashley Taylor finished seventh and eighth to round out scoring in the event. Todd clocked in at 59.03s and Taylor crossed the line at 1:00.10.

Brittney Washington and Teannah Holland finished eighth in their events to tack on additional points. Washington finished the 800m with a time of 2:30.08 and Holland threw a career best, 135"2 (41.21m), to close out the event.

Eastern Illinois captured their fourth consecutive outdoor crown, fifth in the last six seasons, with a score of 185. Southeast Missouri State made a charge at the title but scored 181 points to finish second. Eastern Kentucky (136), Jacksonville State (106.5), Murray State (48), Austin Peay State (44) followed, with Tennessee Tech (25) and Morehead State (16) rounding out the team scores.
