Evansville --- The Tennessee State University women’s basketball team was predicted to finish the 2019-20 OVC campaign in 11th place by the league’s head coaches and media relations directors.
Tennessee State returns eight letterwinners from last season while adding six newcomers to the team. Head coach Jessica Kern begins her third season leading the Lady Tiger program.
Junior Taylor Roberts, the top returning scorer for TSU, averaged 12.5 points per game as a sophomore. She was named to the All-OVC Newcomer team after registering 14.6 ppg and 5.7 rpg as a freshman.
Jaden Wrightsell was second on the 2018-19 team in rebounding with 6.3 rpg. The junior was also the fifth leading scorer for the Lady Tigers a season ago.
Sophomore Terrysha Banner is the second leading scorer returning from last year. She made a team second-best 27 three-pointers and dished out 45 assists.
TSU will look to improve from a season ago in which the Lady Tigers went 5-25 overall and 5-13 in OVC play.
Big Blue will get its final tune up of the season with an exhibition game vs Virginia Lynchburg on Nov. 1 before facing Cincinnati Christian in the season opener on Nov. 9 at 11 a.m. in the Gentry Center.
