The Tennessee State University women’s basketball team will welcome Kentucky State to the Gentry Center for an exhibition contest on Friday, Nov. 3 at 6 p.m. in the Gentry Center.
THE LADY TIGERS AT A GLANCE
This season, Tennessee State will be under the leadership of first year head coach Jessica Kern. The Lady Tigers have six returners from last year’s squad and nine newcomers, including seven freshmen and two transfers that will sit out this year.
Tia Wooten (7.8 ppg) and Kaliya Griffin (6.9 ppg) are the leading scorers among the returners from last season while Maxine Beard averaged a 19.7 minutes of action per outing and earned 11 starts. Beard averaged 3.8 ppg as a junior.
ABOUT THE OPPONENT
Kentucky State University, a member of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, finished last season with a 12-14 overall record and a 6-9 conference mark. KSU averaged 65.9 points per game while six players scored in double-digits. Last month, the Thorobrettes had two players named to the SIAC preseason team and were picked to finish second in the west division. KSU also received votes in the NCAA Division II Top 25 South Region.
TSU and Kentucky State have met 20 times in the regular season with the series tied 10-10.
TSU will officially kick-off the season on Nov. 10 at the University of Memphis. Game time is set for 7 p.m. in Elma Roane Fieldhouse.
