Lady Tigers Add Four During Early Signing Period

NASHVILLE --- Tennessee State University women’s basketball head coach Larry Inman announced the signing of four players last week.

Autumn Hopson, Janna Lewis, Tyler Smith and Jaden Wrightsell signed National Letters of Intent to play basketball at Tennessee State beginning the 2017-18 season.

“I’m very excited about our incoming class,” said head coach Larry Inman. “I think we have some quality players. They come in with a strong ambition of wanting to help us succeed.”

Autumn Hopson (5-8, Guard) averaged 14 points and three assists last season at Patriot HS. The Nokesville, Va., native also turned in 3.0 rpg, 1.0 bpg and 1.0 spg per outing during her junior campaign. She shot nearly 80 percent from the free-throw line and ranked 39th out of 100 players in the DC/MD/VA area.

Janna Lewis (5-9, Forward) led Butler High School to a 31-5 record last season while averaging 9.9 points per game and shooting 50 percent from the field. The Louisville, Ky. native guided her team to a 2016 State Championship and was named to the All-Region First Team. A 2016 State Tournament Player of the Year selection, she was also named to the All-District and All-State Team that same year.

Tyler Smith (5-7, Guard) averaged 10 points, six assists and six rebounds per game as a junior at Antelope Valley High School in Lancaster, Calif. She led her team to a 30-3 record and a state championship appearance last season.

Jaden Wrightsell (5-10, Guard/Forward) averaged 11 points, seven rebounds and two steals per game as a junior at Northwest Magnet HS in Omaha, Nebraska. She was a second-team All-Metro Conference selection last season and is also a standout volleyball athlete.

“Tyler is super quick, Autumn has good speed, Jaden is a very versatile player and Janna is very strong and will able to have her way on the inside. They’re all very excited about coming in and contributing to the team.”
