NASHVILLE --- With nearly a week of practice in the books, Tennessee State University head women's basketball coach Larry Joe Inman is satistfied with the team's progress so far.
" I think we've gotten off to a good start," commented head coach Larry Inman. "We have a long way to go of course. That's how it is almost every year when you start. The good thing is, we have some experienced players back. So that helps us get going."
The Lady Tigers have six seniors on this year's squad, including 2015-16 All-OVC team selections Jayda Johnson and I'mani Davis. Seniors Diamond Beatty and Maxine Beard also saw plenty of action last season and add to the experience.
While listed on the roster as newcomers, transfers Olivia Jones and Tarrana Carter also bring knowledge and leadership to the senior class. Jones played nearly three years at Middle Tennessee while Carter competed at Chattanooga State Junior College.
"We're trying to get better defensively and find the right combination offensively for what we want to do. When you have veteran players, that helps a little bit. You know the players that you can count on. The ones that you know, in certain situations that you put them in, that they're going to respond in a positive way."
The Lady Tigers continue practice tomorrow at 10 a.m. in the Gentry Center in preparation for the season opener at Xavier on Nov. 12.
