Trip to Corpus Christi Slated for WBB
The Tennessee State University women’s basketball team will return to action at Texas A&M Corpus Christi on Monday, Dec. 15 after nine days away from action. The Lady Tigers will take on the Islanders in non-conference at 5 p.m. in the American Bank Center.
Tennessee State (1-6) has dropped four straight contests, including its most recent, 54-53, loss to North Florida on a heartbreaking buzzer beater.
After seven games, Chelsea Hudson is leading the team in scoring with 14.1 points and a team second-best 6.6 rpg. Briana Morrow is leading the team in rebounds with 8.1 rpg while Rachel Allen (7.6 ppg) and Morrow (7.3 ppg) round out the top three scorers.
As a team, TSU is shooting 34.7 percent from the field while averaging 58.1 points per outing. The Lady Tigers have struggled shooting from the free-throw line, only connecting on 59.3 percent of their attempts to start the season.
The Lady Tigers are led by third year head coach and Hall of Famer, Larry Joe Inman.
In a close game, Tennessee State managed to build a four-point lead and seemed to be on the verge of snapping its three-game losing skid. The Lady Tigers, however, saw the game slip away in the final seconds as a three-point shot at the buzzer gave the opponents the victory. Chelsea Hudson led TSU with 14 points while Briana Morrow scored 11. Jemilah Leonard came off the bench to score 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting. TSU went 14-of-25 from the free-throw line.

Texas A&M Corpus Christi (2-4) will be playing its second game in three days on Monday when the Islanders match-up with the Lady Tigers. TAMCC will face UT Arlington the Saturday before TSU comes to town.

Shay Weaver leads the team in scoring with 16.4 ppg while Olivia Fouty averages 12.8 points and 9.2 rebounds per outing.

As a team, the Islanders average 58.3 points per game while shooting 39 percent from the field and 31.4 percent from three-point range.
