Lady Tigers Return to Florida for Gator Holiday Classic

For the third time this season, the Tennessee State University women’s basketball team will make a trip to the Sunshine state.TSU returns to action on Friday, Dec. 20 at the Gator  Holiday Classic. The tournament, hosted by Florida, will also feature Florida International and LaSalle. On Friday night, TSU will face the host Gators before matching up with either LaSalle or FIU on Saturday. 
Tennessee State is coming off a loss to No. 3 Tennessee on Tuesday. The Lady Tigers fell the Lady Vols, 94-43, in the Thompson-Boling Arena. The loss snapped TSU’s two-game win streak and moved TSU to 3-8 on the season. 
After ten games, TSU is averaging 66.2 points per outing while shooting 35.0 percent from the field. Chelsea Hudson leads the team in scoring with 18.0 points per game while Rachel Allen (11.5 ppg) and I’mani Davis (6.8 ppg) round out the top scorers for TSU.
The Lady Tigers, under second year head coach Larry Joe Inman, returned four letterwinners from last year’s squad and added eight newcomers, including seven freshmen, to the roster.
TSU finished last season with an overall record of 13-15 and a 9-7 conference mark. In an Ohio Valley Conference preseason poll that was released in October, TSU was predicted to finish fifth in the East Division standings.
TSU only shot 18.9 percent from the field while only connecting once from long range in a 94-43 loss to No. 3 Tennessee Tuesday night. Rachel Allen led TSU with 12 points while Hudson finished the game with nine points, seven rebounds and three steals. Morrow hauled in six boards.  
Florida (7-3) is currently on a three-game winning streak with the most recent win coming against Saint Francis (105-71). The 105 output marked the second consecutive game with 100+ points. Florida has four players averaging double figures in scoring led by Jaterra Bonds (16.5 ppg). January Miller (13.0 ppg), Ronnie Miller (10.8 ppg), and Kayla Lewis (10.3 ppg) round out the scorers for UofF.
Florida International is off to a 3-5 start this season. The Panthers are most recently coming off a, 70-65, win over OVC member Tennessee Tech. The win was the second straight. FIU opened the season 0-4 before winning three of the last four. Jerica Coley leads the team in scoring with 25.8 points per game. Kamika Edom is the team’s next highest scorer with 7.8 ppg.
LaSalle has also notched a 3-5 mark through eight games this season. In the last outing, the Panthers dropped an, 83-47, decision to Villanova. Khristen Lee leads LaSalle in scoring with 12.0 ppg while Micahya Owens (13.3 ppg) and Alicia Cropper (11.3 ppg) also average double-digits.
TSU will meet Florida for the fourth time in the program’s history. The Gators hold a 3-0 series lead over the Lady Tigers. TSU will meet LaSalle or FIU for the first time.
