CLARKSVILLE, TN---Despite an inspired second half come back, the Tennessee State University women's basketball team dropped a 72-81 decision to Austin Peay Monday night in the Dave Aaron Arena. The Lady Tigers got off to a slow start in the first half and fell behind by as many as eighteen points at the 18:28 mark of the second half. Tennessee State made its first dent in the lead by cutting the Austin Peay advantage down to 10 points (58-48) with 11:57 to play in the game. Austin Peay re-upped its lead to 12 on a lay-up by Kellea Reeves but TSU would out-score the Lady Govs 10-2 over the next three minutes to cut the deficit to four (62-58) with 7:05 remaining. With 6:09 on the clock and Austin Peay leading by five (67-62), the Lady Govs rattled off five unanswered points to extend the lead to 10 (72-62). A determined Lady Tiger squad would cut the lead down to six on three more occasions but that would be as close as TSU would get as Austin Peay hit clutch free-throws down the stretch to keep the Lady Tigers at bay. Oby Okafor picked up her eighth double-double of the season with 21 points and 12 rebounds. Kendra Appling added 15 points for Tennessee State while Taviunna Mayberry (12) and Tiffany Jackson (11) also scored in double figures for TSU. The Lady Tigers will wrap up their three-game road stint with Murray State on Thursday. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
