COOKEVILLE, TN---The Tennessee State University women's basketball team fell to host Tennessee-Tech 57-88 Saturday night in Eblen Center. With the loss, Tennessee State falls to 7-18 overall and 4-12 in the OVC. Tech improves to 11-15 (10-7 OVC). Freshman Jheri Booker scored 18 second half points to lead TSU with 22 points and six rebounds. Nikki Rumph also recorded double-digits for the Lady Tigers with 10 points. The Golden Eagles held TSU's two leading scorers, Oby Okafor (6) and Kendra Appling (7) to a combined 13 points. Tennessee-Tech shot 55.0% from behind the arc and out-rebounded the Lady Tigers 37-24. Tennessee State scored the first points of the game on a bucket from Oby Okafor before Tech tied the game on a jumper from Kristina Tyler. The score would briefly waiver back and forth until Tennessee-Tech used runs of 11-0 and 10-2 to go ahead 32-12 at the 8:19 mark. Tech led by as many as 25 before entering the half-time break with a 49-26 lead. Tennessee Tech did not relinquish the lead for the rest of the game, outscoring the Lady Tigers 39-31 in the second half. The Lady Tigers will play the second contest of a three-game road stint on Monday (Feb.12) when they travel to Clarksville, TN to face the Lady Govs of Austin Peay.
