NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee State women's basketball team held visiting Tennessee-Martin to a single field goal over the final eight minutes on the way to rolling to a 57-40 victory in Ohio Valley Conference play Saturday night. With the win, the Lady Tigers improve to 9-16 overall and 6-8 in the OVC. UT Martin falls to 8-17 and 7-7. Senior guard Quanecia Fletcher started the streak with a 3-point field goal to make the score 44-38. UTM's only score the rest of the way came on an Andreika Jackson layup with just under three minutes to play. TSU featured a balanced scoring attack with Kendra Bailey leading the way with 14 points. LaKisha Clay, who scored six points down the late run, finished with 12 points and the Lady Tigers got 10 points each from Fletcher and Leslie Dean. Bailey and Martina Peteet led TSU with eight rebounds each. The 40 points allowed by TSU was the lowest in a game this season. Jackson was the lone Skyhawk in double figures with 12 points. UTM managed 6-23 field goals in the second half. TSU will host Samford on Thursday night in another key OVC matchup.
