NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee State women’s basketball team will take a break from the rigors of its preseason practice sessions when the Lady Tigers host the Memphis Express. Tip off for the exhibition tilt will be 5:30 p.m. Friday (Nov. 15) in the Gentry Center. Coach Valencia Jordan has been pleased with her team’s progress and has been sending her troops through the drills since practice began last month. The exhibition game for the Lady Tigers will be the team’s lone preseason matchup before the regular season begins. TSU opens the season Saturday, Nov. 23 against Belmont in a game to be played at Aquinas Center. Memphis Express is a team comprised mainly of former collegiate standouts. The Lady Tigers return eight letter winners from last season’s rebuilding campaign. Five of the returnees who played in 20 or made games saw starting duty last season. LaToya Clay averaged 6.1 points and 4.0 rebounds. The team’s lone senior, Tristin Johnson, averaged 5.6 ppg and 5.4 rpg in her first season with the Lady Tigers. The Friday exhibition gamer will be a part of a doubleheader with the Tiger men’s team. The TSU men will host Sports Reach following the women’s contest. Tickets for the 2002-03 season are on sale. The exhibition doubleheader will have a special price of $2 per ticket. For information on TSU basketball tickets, telephone (615) 963-5841. ###
