NASHVILLE, Tenn. --- Tennessee State volleyball kicked off fall camp yesterday in Gentry Center with a practice focused on newcomers.
After a conference record of 9-19 last season, the Tigers are looking forward to this upcoming season and are ready to put in the work needed to get a winning record. The program welcomes back seven returners and adds 10 newcomers to the team.
As practice went on the newcomers grew more comfortable with one another. Newcomers Teuila Lolotai and Jasmine Fuqua were asked about improvements they felt were needed within the team
“Communication is the key," said Lolotai. "A lot of us are to ourselves still so we just have to work on communication. We’re all still trying to get used to each other.”
“We need to work on constructive criticism, taking it and working on what was said. It’s okay if you mess up, just focus on the next play and improving.” commented Fuqua.
Sutton agrees with Lolotai and Fuqua about the communication deficit but, she is excited for the improvements to come. Sutton was impressed by their energy and effort during their first practice.
“Once they build up that trust, those relationships and chemistry, I feel like we will be in a better place.” continued Sutton.
Tiger volleyball will host an Alumni match on Aug. 17 at 1 p.m. in Gentry Center.
