Former Volleyball GA Hired by AVCA

NASHVILLE --- Former Tennessee State University Graduate Assistant Joia Pollard has accepted a full-time position with the American Volleyball Coaches Association as a Membership and Communications Specialist.

In her role with the AVCA she works on membership retention and acquisition, she serves as the beach volleyball membership lead and High School Affiliate Partner program liaison. Aditionally she oversees the Affiliations Newsletter and writes beach volleyball content for In the Sand newsletter.

"I wanted my position with Tennessee State volleyball to be my biggest focus before graduating with my masters," said Pollard. "That position gave me my first steps into my career and provided me with experiences that will help me in my first position post-grad.”

"The sports field is difficult to get into," expressed Pollard when asked to give advice to up-and-coming graduate assistants. "You have to have dedication, a passion for the industry and diligence to get the job done.”

"Im excited for Joia!" said Donika Sutton, head coach of the TSU volleyball team. "Her work ethic and dedication while here at TSU was phenomenal. I have no doubt she will do great things at AVCA."

The AVCA was founded in 1981. It strives to advance the sport with leadership, advocacy and professional development. The AVCA works with coaches at all levels: collegiate, high school, club, youth, Olympic, and club.
