QUICK HITTERS: Tennessee State volleyball heads to crosstown-rival Belmont for a mid-week match, Tuesday, Oct. 23. The 6 p.m. match at the Curb Event Center will be the second matchup of the season between the Tigers and Bruins. In the first meeting, Tennessee State went to four with BU, defeating the rivals, 23-25, 25-23, 25-18, 25-14. 

In the all-time series against Belmont, TSU is 12-22.

TSU UPDATE: The Tigers hit the road for its first away game in three weekends. Big Blue's first stop at UT Martin ended after five hard-fought matches against the Skyhawks, losing 25-21, 25-18, 24-26, 23-25, 15-11. Rachel Henderson tied with JoJo Kruize for the match-high eight blocks, surpassing 75 on the season. Julia Pierson finished with a team-high 15 kills, adding 15 digs, marking her 8th double-double of the season. Te’o recorded her 12th double-double of the season with 38 assists and 16 digs. 

TSU had its redemption match in Cape Giraradeau, Missouri, as it swept SEMO, 25-18, 25-19, 25-14, breaking its four-match losing streak. With 11 team blocks versus the Redhawks, Big Blue has recorded double-digit blocks in 11 of its matches this season. Freshman middle, Aria Holmes finished with a match-high six block assists. Hinalei Fihaki helped with five total blocks, four assists and one solo to surpass 75 blocks on the season.

After five weeks of conference play, TSU is ranked fifth in the league. 

SCOUTING BELMONT: The Bruins had a major upset, defeating conference-leader Austin Peay in five-sets at home. Both Bruin wins occured in the Curb Event Center. Belmont has outside hitters Maggie Mullins and Taylor Floyd at the net, leading the offense. Akia Warrior leads BU in service aces with 17, and is ranked tenth in the league in assists behind fellow-setter Carly Mason.  

UP NEXT: The Tigers head to SIU-Edwardsville to complete its road trip, Saturday, Oct. 27 for a 2 p.m. match in the Vadalabene Center.
