QUICK HITTERS: Tennessee State volleyball hits the road for a pair of matches Friday, Oct. 19 at 6 p.m., and Saturday, Oct. 20 at 5 p.m. First stop will be UT Martin, as the Tigers take on the Skyhawks in the Skyhawk Fieldhouse. Big Blue will end its weekend trip at Southeast Missouri playing in the Houck Field House.

UT Martin leads the all-time series against TSU, 14-35. In the 2017-18 season, the Tigers fell to the Skyhawks at home, 3-1 (21-25, 22-25, 25-23, 20-25). In the all-time series against SEMO, the Tigers are 5-44, with Big Blue dropping the last meeting in three.

TSU UPDATE: The Tigers hosted Murray State in Kean Hall, Oct. 12 this year, and after a hard-fought battle, TSU fell 3-2 to the Eagles. Despite the loss, five-Tigers set new season-high stats. Rachel Henderson recorded 22 kills, Laken Te’o 49 assists, Gina Rivera Ortiz 37 digs, Julia Pierson 20 digs and Hinalei Fihaki 11 kiils.

Big Blue followed with a match versus conference-leaders Austin Peay. The Tigers pushed the Govs to four sets, before APSU closed the match (25-19, 25-22, 22-25, 25-16). 

After four weeks of conference play, TSU is ranked fifth in the league. 

SCOUTING UT MARTIN: Libero Brooke Gyori holds down the backcourt for the Skyhawks, passing to setter Kenzie Hinshaw who sets out the ball to outside hitters Hannah Phillips and Megan Fair. The average height for UTM stands at 6'0". The Skyhawks are 1-2 in Ohio Valley Conference matches at home. 

SCOUTING SEMO: Freshman standout, Claire Ochs facilitates the Redhawk offense, helping hitter Laney Malloy, a six-rotation outside hitter, record 277 kills on the season. Ochs averages 10.26 assists per set and ranks second on the team in digs with 263, behind libero Ally Dion with 295. The Redhawks hold a record of 5-6 in home matches this season. 

UP NEXT: The Tigers complete the road trip with a mid-week match at Belmont, Tuesday, Oct. 23, and a Saturday, Oct.27 match at SIUE.
