Henderson Named to Preseason All-Conference

NASHVILLE --- Tennessee State volleyball's sole senior, Rachel Henderson, was named to the All-Preseason team announced by the Ohio Valley Conference this morning. The Tigers were picked to finish tenth overall in a vote of the conference’s head coaches and sports information directors.

After making an immediate impact in her first year as a Tiger, Henderson posted the team-high in kills (307) and total blocks (87) while starting all 30 matches (112 sets) in blue and white. The only returning team captain recorded her career-high kills 21 against Eastern Illinois, tying for eighth in the league in total points in a single match. The Fort Worth, Texas native led TSU in blocks for 15 of the 30 matches, and was a dominate and explosive force for the Tigers on both sides of the ball.

Tennessee State finished its first season under head coach Donika Sutton 7-23 overall, 3-13 conference record. With a healthy squad consisting of three returning starters and ten newcomers, the Tigers look to bring a new fire to conference play.

Murray State has been picked to win the league after picking up 10 first-place votes from the head coaches and sports information directors. Last year’s conference champions, Austin Peay, earned 14 first-place votes, but finished just 3 points under the Racers to be selected to finish second.

The Tigers will start the season at the FIU Kickoff versus Stetson on Aug. 24 at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center in Miami. Conference play gets underway at home against crosstown-rival Belmont Sept. 18.
