Volleyball Hosts SIUE for Code Blue Match

MATCH INFORMATION: Tennessee State (7-20, 3-10 OVC) will host Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (20-5, 10-3 OVC), Saturday, Nov. 4 for its annual Code Blue match in Kean Hall at noon.

LAST TIME OUT: TSU upset crosstown rivals, Belmont in a 3-0 sweep in its first-of-four home matches to round out the season. With the win against the Bruins, Big Blue broke its seven-game losing streak to improve its record to 7-20, 3-10 OVC. Samantha Beltran posted her 3,500th assist of her career, and Mine Centinoz saw the court the most she has all season and proved she was meant to be there by leading the Tigers in service aces with two. TSU held the Bruins to a .045 team attack percentage and won 25-20, 25-22, 25-21.

SERIES INFORMATION: Since 2010, when SIU Edwardsville first joined the Ohio Valley Conference, TSU has gone 5-3 against the Cougars. The last time SIUE visited Kean Hall, Big Blue swept the team 30-28, 25-14, 25-12.

ABOUT SIUE: The Cougars have three players ranked nationally, one in Taylor Joens who has been named OVC Offensive Player of the Week three times this season. Joens leads SIUE in kills with 303 and is ranked 55th in the nation in hitting percentage. Setter Samantha Knight is ranked 44th in service aces and 86th in aces per set. Edwardsville native, Katie Shashack has recorded 401 digs this season, placing her 96th in the nation.

On Wednesday in a 3-0 sweep against Eastern Illinois, Jackie Scott led the offense with 10 kills, and Katie Shashack 22 digs.
