Tigers Season Comes to a Close in a 3-1 Loss to Austin Peay

MURRAY, Ky. --- The 6th seeded Tigers took on the 3rd seeded Governors in a match that saw TSU’s season end by a 3-1score.

Taylor Patterson recorded a double-double for the Tigers in her last match for TSU with 11 kills and 14 digs. Senior Chloe Watson was injured in the match but finished her TSU career with six kills and six digs while fellow senior Puamana Danielson dished out 16 assists and registered six digs of her own. Arijana Anderson recorded seven kills in the match. Defensively Cherlie Adorno-DeJesus had 24 digs for the Tigers. After losing the first two sets by scores of 25-19 and 25-16 Tennessee State would win set three 25-20. The Tigers would then drop the final set 25-13.

The Tigers captured a 5-2 lead on an Anderson kill to begin the first set. A service error by APSU gave TSU an 8-6 advantage. The Governors took a 12-9 edge on a Tiger hitting error.  Austin Peay would cling to a 17-14 lead before Tennessee State took its first timeout of the match. After the timeout APSU extended its lead to 20-14 before a TSU block stopped a Peay run. A kill by Patterson brought the Tigers within five before a Governor kill ended the first set.

Patterson recorded consecutive kills to give TSU a 2-1 edge to begin the second stanza. A hitting error by Tennessee State helped Austin Peay build a 6-3 lead. Watson recorded a kill to make the score 9-4 before a Pierson kill put the Tigers down four. The Tigers pulled within two before back to back points for the Governors made the score 12-8. Austin Peay pushed their lead to 15-9 before a Patterson kill ended the run. TSU took a timeout down 17-10. A service error by APSU made the score 20-14. Down 22-15 the Tigers burned another timeout. Tennessee State dropped the second set 25-16.

Frame number three started with the Tigers down 5-1. A service ace by Curstyn Wilson followed by a Patterson kill brought TSU within two. Samantha Beltran registered a service ace of her own to bring the score to 10-9 with a slight lead for APSU. Austin Peay would then go on a 4-1 run. Wilson then made the score 16-14 on another service ace. TSU tied the score at 16 on a block, and forced APSU to take its first timeout of the day. Tennessee State took a 20-18 lead on a Pierson kill. After a lift call on the Governors gave TSU a 21-18 lead Austin Peay took its second timeout of the set. A hitting error by APSU gave the Tigers a 24-19 lead. Pierson ended with her 6th kill of the day.

A net violation on Austin Peay started the fourth set. An Anderson kill gave TSU a 3-2 lead. A service error from the Governors gave APSU a 7-6 edge. Down 10-7 another kill for Anderson brought TSU within two. Trailing 14-9 the Tigers took its first timeout of the set. Austin Peay extended its lead to 18-9 before three straight blocks for TSU. Tennessee State burned its second timeout down 20-12. Austin Peay pushed its lead to 24-12 before a hitting error stopped a run. A kill by the Governors ended the match.
