Tigers Sweep Golden Eagles for Third Straight Win

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tennessee State would battle with Tennessee Tech Friday night which saw the Tigers sweep the match by a 3-0 score.

The Tennessee State volleyball team used a total team effort to defeat the Golden Eagles for the second time this season. Offensively the Tigers had four players with six or more kills with Taylor Patterson leading the way with eight. Defensively Chloe Watson led the way with 18 digs followed by 13 from Cherlie Adorno-DeJesus. Samantha Beltran recorded a double-double with 13 assists and 11 digs. The Tigers won by score of (25-14, 25-10, 25-17). The Tigers minimized errors and recorded 63 digs in three sets. 

Set one started with TSU up 6-2 with consecutive points from Katora Roberts. The Golden Eagles closed the gap to 8-7 before a service error gave the Tigers a two point lead. A block by Arijana Anderson gave TSU a 13-9 lead. Tennessee State took a six point lead by an 18-12 score on an Alexis Johnson kill forcing Tennessee Tech to call a timeout. The Tigers stretched its lead to 22-14. A TSU block ended frame number one.

Stanza number two started with a Patterson kill. The Tigers jumped out to an early 6-3 lead in the set. After a TTU hitting error gave TSU a 9-4 lead the Golden Eagles burned their first timeout of the frame. Tennessee State extended its lead to 11-5 on a Roberts kill. After a Tech block TSU took a timeout to regroup with the Tigers leading 11-7. After Tennessee State pushed the lead to 15-7 Tennessee Tech took another timeout to slow the Tigers down. TSU built a 23-10 lead with effort and execution. An Anderson kill gave TSU a win in set two.

The Tigers started the third frame off trailing 2-1 before a Julia Pierson kill tied the score at 2. Tennessee State took a 9-5 lead forcing Tech to take an early timeout. TSU increased its lead to 16-10 before TTU took another timeout. Watson recorded a kill giving the Tigers a 19-11 lead. After a Tech rally TSU would register three straight points to win the match on a Patterson kill.
