Volleyball Visits Sunset Zoo

MANHATTAN, Kan. --- Lions, tigers, and bears…OH MY! The Tennessee State volleyball team visited the Sunset Zoo in Manhattan on Sept. 1 for a weekend tournament at Kansas State.

The Tigers arrived early Thursday afternoon after traveling from Nashville. The Tigers had an entire day ahead of them before an evening practice arrived. After getting a bite to eat the coaching staff agreed that the team needed to walk off some of the calories.

The bus made a pit stop at the Sunset Zoo. The team was ecstatic once they realized where they were! TSU players urgently got off the bus ready for an adventure. Although half the zoo was under construction, the players enjoyed their time with the animals.

The Sunset Zoo was beautiful and it was a nice sunny day with a light breeze. The air was filled with all the different animal scents and the landscape had a wide array of beautiful flowers. While the players were taking a tour of the zoo they were witnesses to a wedding practice that was taking place in one of the prettiest parts of the zoo.

The coaches used this time as a team building exercise, facilitating camaraderie between the players. The players walked around the zoo as if they were kids at a candy store. Some student-athletes were more brave than others taking pictures with some of the animals. The Tennessee State Tigers finished off the tour meeting their long lost cousin also known as the Sunset Zoo tiger.
