Moss and Wells Named Preseason All-OVC
Nashville, Tenn. – The Ohio Valley Conference released the volleyball preseason all-conference team and predicted order of finish for 2013. Tennessee State has been tabbed to finish third in the East Division, while Erika Moss and Naomi Wells were named to the all-conference team.
Defending OVC tournament champions Belmont University was picked first in the East and is followed by Morehead State, the reigning regular season champions. The Tigers placed third in the East in 2012, as well as at the OVC championships. Jacksonville State, Eastern Kentucky and Tennessee Tech are slated to finish behind Tennessee State in the East. Southeast Missouri State was the top vote getter in the West, followed by Austin Peay, Eastern Illinois, SIUE, UT Martin and Murray State.
The top three teams in the East will square off to open OVC play. TSU will host Eastern Kentucky on Sept. 27 and Morehead State on Sept. 28. Three days later, Oct. 1, the Bruins enter Kean for a cross-town battle.
Moss is a two-time First Team all-OVC selection and will run the offense for the Tigers. The senior setter is the all-time assists leader at TSU with 3,356 and has played in well over 300 sets. Moss was named to the all-preseason team in 2012 and was selected to the COBRA Magazine all-Southeast Region Team as a junior and was named Setter of the Year in 2011.
Wells was selected to the all-OVC First Team last season after leading the team in kills with 433. The redshirt-junior played in all 188 matches in 2012 and averaged 3.67 kills per set. Wells is a versatile player who finished second on the team with 345 digs and tallied 53 blocks, five solo, 25 aces and 38 assists.
The Tigers open the season against South Alabama on Aug. 30 at the Jaguar Invite in Mobile, Ala.
