Anderson Records Career High 13 Kills; Tigers Fall 3-0

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Large runs from Morehead State prove to be too much for Tennessee State as the Tigers fall to three-time defending OVC champion Eagles 3-0.

Freshman outside hitter Arijana Anderson recorded 13 kills on the day to pace the Tigers attack. The Muncie, Ind. native saved her best for last as she posted seven kills in the final fame with a .700 hitting percentage.

Senior Naomi Wells and junior Ileanushka Maldonado recorded 17 digs apiece on the defensive end to lead TSU. Erika Moss once again led the team in assists picking up 29 on the afternoon.

After Tennessee State (3-9, 0-2) claimed the first point in the opening set, Morehead State (11-5, 2-0) rallied with a 9-1 run to jumpstart their attack. Allowing Morehead State to gain the 9-2 advantage. Tennessee State would claw back into the set behind an offensive attack headed by junior Taylor Swayzer and senior Naomi Wells. A Wells kill would cap off an 11-4 run to knot the set at 13. Morehead State would go on to close the set on a 12-6 run winning the opening frame 25-19. Swayzer lead the way for TSU racking up four kills in the set with a .667 hitting percentage.

With Morehead State leading the second set 6-3 Tennessee State would use a 4-0 run to take the lead 7-6. The Eagles would surge back in front outscoring the Tigers to regain the lead 20-13. Coach Kathy Roulhac’s ream would answer with a 4-0 run of their own but it would prove to be too late as Morehead State would prevail and take the second set 25-19.

In the third stanza each team would trade runs with Morehead State taking the slim 18-17 lead. Anderson led the way for the Tigers in the frame racking up seven kills to pace the Tigers against the Eagles. Morehead State would then close out the set on a 7-2 run to win the decisive frame 25-20 and the match 3-0.
