Volleyball breaks from OVC action with match against Lipscomb

Nashville, Tenn. ---- The Tennessee State University volleyball team will return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 1 with a non-conference match-up against Lipscomb University.

Tennessee State  (14-9) is coming off a 3-0 win over Tennessee Tech on Saturday as  the Tigers tallied 50 kills and hit .374 in the sweep. TSU is currently in a tie for second place in the conference standings.

Shaquita Williams leads the team offensively with 3.78 kills per set while Terakka Walker is second with 3.02 kills per contest. Williams also leads the team in total service aces and blocks while ranking in the OVC's top three in points, aces and hitting percentage. Britani Hathorn paces the Tiger defense with 4.22 digs per frame while Danielle Howell averages a team second-best 0.57 blocks per set.

As a team, Tennessee State is averaging 12.96 kills/set behind a .172 hitting percentage.

Lipscomb (16-7) is coming off a 3-1 loss to Belmont last Tuesday. The loss to the Bruins snapped a 14-match winning streak for the Bisons. LU is led offensively by Kaycee Green (3.57 k/s), Lauren Ford (3.19 k/s) and Katie Rose (3.17 k/s) while Stephanie Rex turns in 3.81 digs per outing. As a team, Lipscomb registers 14.23 kills per set behind a .244 hitting percentage.

Last season, Tennessee State dropped three straight sets (10-25, 19-25, 21-25) to Lipscomb in Allen Arena. TSU only managed to post 20 kills in the contest while hitting -0.46. LU hit .312 and tallied 35 kills in the win.
