Volleyball releases 2012 schedule

Nashville, Tenn. --- The Tennessee State University 2012 volleyball schedule has been released.

The Tigers will play a total of 30 regular season matches, including three tournaments and nine home contests. TSU will match up with schools from leagues across the country including Conference USA, Mountain West, SWAC, MEAC, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Gulf South, Southland and Sunbelt and Southern Conference.

"The schedule will be very competitive," said head coach Kathy Roulhac. "We have added teams like The University of Portland, UNLV and Idaho State. This level of competition will ensure that we will be ready to compete with our conference teams. Also we will be starting on the road as we did in 2011 which I feel is good because it's good preparation on how to win on the road. We only have nine home matches because the conference changed to divisions but we will protect our turf. Any team coming into Tiger land better be ready for a fight!!!"

To open the 2012 season, Tennessee State will compete in the ISTAP Invitational (Aug. 24-25) hosted by Alabama State in Montgomery, Ala. Opponents that the Tigers are slated to face include, Southeastern Louisiana, Stetson, Jacksonville State and Alabama State.

The following weekend, TSU will make the trip to Oregon to participate in Portland University's Tournament, Aug. 31-Sept. 1. The Tigers will see action against Idaho State, UNLV and host Portland.

The Tigers wrap up their early tournament action, Sept. 7-8, at the second annual KSU Owls Classic. The two-day event, hosted by Kennesaw State, will feature North Carolina Central, Chattanooga, Troy, TSU and Kennesaw State.

Following tournament action, TSU will remain on the road and open Ohio Valley Conference play with matches against Eastern Illinois (9/21), Morehead State (9/22) and Belmont (9/25).

On Saturday, Sept. 29, TSU will embark on a four-match home stand, beginning with the return game from EIU. In the next four contests, the Tigers will face Tennessee Tech (10/5), Jacksonville State (10/6) before returning to the road at UT Martin (10/12) and Southeast Missouri (10/16).

The Tigers will take a break from OVC action with a home match against Memphis in Kean Hall on Tuesday, Oct. 16. The weekend, however, marks the return of league play as TSU hits the road to face Jacksonville State (10/19) and Tennessee Tech (10/20).

As the regular season winds down, TSU will play five matches in front of the Tiger fans. The home stand includes matches versus Murray State (10/26), Austin Peay (10/27), Morehead State (11/2), Eastern Kentucky (11/3) and Belmont (11/7). The Tigers will play one non-conference road game during that span at Alabama A&M on Oct. 30.

Tennessee State will conclude the 2012 regular season on the road at SIU Edwardsville on Saturday, Nov. 10.

The 2012 Ohio Valley Conference Tournament will take place, Nov. 15-19, and will be hosted by the number one seed.
