Volleyball hosts Gamecocks and Golden Eagles

Nashville, Tenn. --- The Tennessee State University volleyball team returns to action this weekend with contests against Jacksonville State and Tennessee Tech.

The Tigers will match-up with the Gamecocks of Jacksonville State on Friday at 7 p.m. before facing the Golden Eagles of Tennessee Tech on Saturday at 2 p.m. Both matches will be played in Kean Hall.

Tennessee State (13-8, 9-5 OVC) is in third place in the conference standings. The Tigers are coming off a 3-1 win over SIUE on the road Saturday afternoon. TSU dropped the opening set before bouncing back to win three straight in the victory.

Shaquita Williams continues to lead the team offensively with 3.82 kills per set. Williams is also ranked in the top three in the league in service aces, points and hitting percentage.

Tennessee Tech (4-20, 3-11 OVC) is coming off a 3-1 win over Murray State on Saturday. The Golden Eagles had lost three straight before defeating MSU.  Natalie Penrod leads the team with 2.96 kps while as a team, Tech averages 10.20 kills (.171) per outing. TTU is currently in 11th place in the league standings.

Jacksonville State (8-16, 6-8 OVC) currently sits in sixth place in the league race. The Gamecocks have won two straight, including its most recent 3-2 victory over SEMO on Saturday. JSU had dropped five straight before snapping the skid against Murray State on Friday. Overall JSU averages 12.2 kps with a .178 hitting percentage. Stephanie Koontz leads the team with 3.02 kps (.301).

Earlier in the season, Tennessee State defeated Jacksonville State, 3 -1 (25-18, 26-28, 25-18, 25-21) on the road.  The Tigers, however, dropped a five-set battle to Tennessee Tech (25-23, 23-25, 22-25, 25-16, 12-15).
