Nashville --- Members of the Tennessee State University volleyball team put on a free clinic at the Preston Taylor Boys & Girls Club/YMCA this Saturday.

The team donated their time and shared insight during the free volleyball clinic held at the club, which is located near the Tennessee State University campus on 38th Avenue North.

"The clinic was a success," said head coach Kathy Roulhac. "It gave my players an opportunity to give back to the community. We went through two hours of teaching volleyball skills and we gave the young ladies an opportunity to see other women who look just like them playing the sport of Volleyball."

The clinic was designed to inspire and motivate young ladies from the area that hope to pursue a future in volleyball. The participants were members of the Starlings Volleyball Club, an inner city club based in Nashville.

"TSU Volleyball has been an outstanding partner with our Starlings Volleyball club at the Preston Taylor Boys and Girls Club/YMCA," commented Dantriel McWilliams, Director.  "Not many players have the opportunity to be developed by collegiate coaches or players so we thank Coach Kathy for recognizing this need for inner city young ladies to have such an experience."

The nearly 30 participants, ranging from ages 13-18, were provided with one-on-one skill instruction while also working on volleyball fundamentals, drills and defensive schemes.

Preston Taylor Boys & Girls Club/YMCA Center is located in West Nashville and is one of three Boys & Girls Clubs of Middle Tennessee in the Nashville area.

Starlings Director, Coach Lakesha Morrow-Thomas added, "The clinic was very inspirational, inviting, and motivational for all of our players!"   As a former TSU volleyball  player if felt good to have my alma mater come and help our girls reach new heights in the game of volleyball."
