Tigers still fighting for playoff contention

Nashville, Tenn. --- Volleyball (9-15, 7-9 OVC) prepares for their last two matches of the regular season as they face Austin Peay on Friday, November 12 at 7:00p.m. and Southern Illinois-Edwardsville on Sunday, November 14 at 12:00p.m. The Tigers will need a win against Austin Peay and the help of Eastern Illinois and Tennessee Tech to fulfill their postseason aspirations.


Tiger Recap
The (9-15, 7-9 OVC) Tigers were able to continue their hot streak and recorded their fourth straight victory with a five set  win over SEMO before dropping a match to Eastern Illinois (15-14, 7-9 OVC). Against SEMO Santia Sanders led the team while recording a double-double with 28 kills (.361) and 19 digs. Also, Shaquita Williams tallied 14. Kamille King led the defense while also recording a double-double with 12 kills and a team-best 26 digs.


In the 3-0 loss to Eastern Illinois Santia Sanders was able to record another double-double with 14 kills and 11 digs, while being the only Tiger to post double-digit kills. Calasia Williams and Kamille King anchored the defense while Williams recorded 15 digs and King added 14. The Tigers did not hit well in the loss as they registered 44 kills while hitting .193 against the 45 kills and a .246 hitting percentage of Eastern Illinois.

Tiger Preview
Tennessee State senior Santia Sanders was awarded the Ohio Valley Conference offensive player of the week honor after  finishing the week with 42 kills and a .320 hitting percentage. This is the second straight week a Tennessee State Volleyball player has received an OVC honor, as Shaquita Williams was last week’s OVC offensive player of the week. Sanders recorded a career-best 28 kills to add to a season-high 19 digs in the victory over Southeast Missouri last week. She also recorded her 12th double-double of the season with 14 kills and 11 digs against Eastern Illinois. Sanders, is currently leading the team in total kills with 272 along with kills per set, 2.80. She also has 261 digs and 23 service aces while contributing to 315 points on the season.


Tigers vs. Austin Peay (22-6, 13-4 OVC

Austin Peay leads the overall series 38-7 as they took a 3-2 match from the Tigers earlier this season. Austin Peay is riding a four game win streak with their most recent wins coming against Eastern Illinois (17-25, 25-19, 25-21, 26-24) and Southeast Missouri State (25-22, 25-21, 25-18). In their most recent victory gainst SEMO, junior Ilyanna Hernadez led the Lady Govs with 14 kills and sophomore Nikki Doyle added 12 kills while leading the team with a .393 hitting percentage, recording just one error on 28 attempts. As a team Austin Peay registered 50 kills while hitting .236.


Tigers vs. SIU-E (12-14) Senior Day
This will be the first meeting between the Tigers and the Cougars. SIU-E recently dropped a close five set match to Eastern Kentucky (24-26, 25-20, 25-22, 24-26, 15-7). Libero Karie Downing recorded a career best 36 digs to add to the team total 85 as both teams played a defensive match,  EKU recorded 103 digs. Julia Whitfield recorded a team-high 16 kills to lead the offense while Sydney Winslow added 14.
