Volleyball hosts Western Kentucky in season opener

Nashville --- The Tennessee State University volleyball team will officially kick-off the 2010 season with a match-up against Western Kentucky on Tuesday, Aug. 31 in Kean Hall at 7 p.m.

TSU has eight returners from last season, including three seniors and two juniors. Senior Vicmari Prospero and junior Shaquita Williams are among the key returnees for the Tigers.

Prospero led the team with a .220 attack percentage last year while also recording a squad-high 70 blocks. She averaged 2.07 kills per set in 2009 and ranked second in the league with 39 service aces.

Williams led the team with 267 total kills while also ranking first on the squad with 2.50 kills per set. She was second on the team with 47 blocks. She recorded 13 double-digit kill performances.

In the season opening exhibition match, the Tigers dropped a match in four sets to the TSU alumni team on Saturday.

WKU is coming off of a 1-2 showing at the Mortar Board Premier tournament hosted by Purdue this weekend. WKU dropped contests to Northern Iowa and Purdue before defeating Central Michigan. The Hilltoppers were picked to finish third in the East Division of the Sunbelt Conference.

The season opener vs. WKU is slated to begin at 7 p.m. in Kean Hall.
