BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- The Tennessee State volleyball team had a successful weekend in the UAB Invitational, taking two of three matches with the only loss coming to the host and unbeaten Lady Blazers.
TSU opened play with a 3-1 win in its lone match on Friday over Southeast Louisiana. On Saturday, the Lady Tigers dropped a 3-1 match to UAB before rebounding by sweeping Louisiana-Monroe, 3-0.
The Lady Tigers had several players who had solid performances. Setter Tiana Maua received one of the three individual awards presented following the tournament when she was named "Best Setter" as selected by UAB officials.
Maua had 38 set assists in the win over Southeastern. The match also featured a standout defensive effort from Katrelle Armwood who had 34 digs. TSU won the match by game scores of 30-20, 30-25, 26-30, and 30-17.
In the match against UAB, the Lady Tigers lost 20-30, 28-30, 30-20, and 25-30. Kara Keifer had 18 kills while Kelly Davis had 17 kills and a .361 hitting percentage.
The Lady Tigers wrapped up the match by defeating ULM 30-26, 30-14, and 30-25. TSU had a .239 hitting percentage.
TSU will play at Belmont on Tuesday night.
