COOKEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tennessee State volleyball team (3-19, 0-7 OVC) stays in the hunt for its first Ohio Valley Conference win after falling to Tennessee Tech (6-13, 2-6 OVC), 3-0, on Saturday. The opening game saw the Golden Eaglettes jump out to a 6-0 lead before a block by freshman Kelly Davis (Farrell, Pa.) and junior Thereza Wright (El Paso, Texas) finally put Tennessee State on the board. After calling a timeout with the score at 17-6, the Lady Tigers put together a rally behind freshman Allyson Buckner (Humble, Texas), who recorded TSU's lone service ace of the day. The surge would move Tennessee State to within six but that would be as close as it would come as TTU went on to take the game, 30-19. The Lady Tigers came out hot at the start of game two, knotting the game four times before the Golden Eaglettes grabbed a slim 10-5 lead. However, TSU was unable to keep the heat on as Tennessee Tech went on the stretch its lead to as many as 10 before taking the game, 30-13. TTU never let the Lady Tigers find their rhythm in the third game and cruised to a 30-18 win. Juniors Jennifer Washington (East Pointe, Ga.) and Catherine Armwood (Durham, N.C.) each recorded seven digs while freshmen Ashley Douglas (DeSoto, Texas) and Kristen Metz (Sasketchewan, Canada) and Wright all had four block assists. Tennessee State returns to action on October 19 as for a rematch with crosstown rival Lipscomb. Match time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
