NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee State University volleyball team (3-13, 0-2 OVC) fell to crosstown rival Lipscomb (5-9) in its final non-conference home match of the season. The final score of the match was 3-0 in favor of the Lady Bison. Game one went to Lipscomb, 30-22, after it capitalized on an early lead. However, game two saw the Lady Tigers come alive and go nearly point for point with the Lady Bison. The game was tied four times before Lipscomb narrowly came away with the 30-28 win. After the break, Tennessee State struck first notching five unanswered points. Lipscomb fired back knotting the game each time the Lady Tigers managed to pull away. Finally, behind Kelly Houff, the Lady Bison put enough distance between them and the Lady Tigers to come away with the 30-20 win. Lipscomb's Alex Scruggs and Missy Rachel each hit .500, recording eight and two kills, respectively. Rachel added 20 assists and Emily Smith had 15 assists on the night. Brittnney Lanius led all the Lady Bison with 15 kills. Junior Thereza Wright (El Paso, Texas) led the Lady Tigers in hitting with .250 while classmate Catherine Armwood (Durham, N.C.) notched eight kills. Sophomore LaQuata Marsh (Chattanooga, Tenn.) recorded 10 digs and freshman Allyson Buckner (Humble, Texas) added two more service aces for the season. Tennessee State returns to action on Saturday, October 2nd, as it hosts Ohio Valley Conference rival Eastern Illinois in Kean Hall. Match time is set for 2 p.m.
