VOLLEYBALL FALLS IN OVC OPENER

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. --- The Tennessee State volleyball team (3-11, 0-1 OVC) fell in its first Ohio Valley Conference contest of the 2004 campaign with Jacksonville State (11-2, 2-0 OVC). The Gamecocks took the contest, 3-0. Game one saw Jacksonville State take an early 8-5 lead and never look back going on to take the game, 30-15. The second game saw a strong defensive effort by sophomore LaQuata Marsh (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and junior Thereza Wright (El Paso, Texas) after Tennessee State jumped out to a 3-2 lead before the Gamecocks pulled away for the 30-12 win. The final game again saw Jax State take the lead early. Great serves by junior Catherine Armwood (Durham, N.C.) moved the Lady Tigers to within 24-14 before a late surge by the Gamecocks saw them take the game, 30-16. Tennessee State returns to action on Saturday, September 25 as they travel to Birmingham, Ala., to take on Samford. Match time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
