NASHVILLE --- Behind a strong offensive effort, the Tennessee State volleyball team (3-8, 0-0 OVC) defeated crosstown rival Trevecca (0-2, 0-0 TranSouth)on Thursday night, 3-1.
Trevecca managed to snatch the first game away from the Lady Tigers, 30-26, outhitting them .114 to .078. However, that was the last time the Trojans would be in that position as Tennessee State went on to dominate the next three games of the match, 30-28, 30-26, 30-26, respectively.
Freshman Allyson Buckner (Humble, Texas) led the game with a career-high 24 kills, hitting a career-high .347 for the night. Junior Catherine Armwood (Durham, N.C.) notched a double-double with 12 kills and 15 digs. She also collected a game and season-high five service aces.
Trevecca's Jodi Reimer picked up a double-double with 11 kills and 20 digs to lead the Trojans.
Tennessee State returns to action on Friday, September 17 as they travel south to take on the Lady Bulldogs of Alabama A&M. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
