Dawn Reese, head coach of the Tennessee State Lady Tiger Volleyball team, is as excited as her players are about the upcoming 2003 season. The team will have only a few more practices before their first test of the season at the Troy State Tournament this weekend. The Lady Tigers will take on Bethune-Cookman, Jackson State and host-Troy State during the two-day long tournament. ?(This weekend at Troy State) I expect that we will be able to respond to the competition. I am going to be playing with the lineups during this first weekend to begin to solidify the lineup for OVC play. A lot of the newcomers have really stepped up and will be vying for starting positions. ?Junior Kniambi Jones (Harvest, Ala.), who transferred from Wallace State CC, has made a real go at the outside hitter position. Also freshman Krystie Kaukola (Fairfax, Minn.) is doing very well and is working to be the starting setter,? Reese said. This year's Lady Tiger squad introduces eight new faces to the roster to add depth to a lineup that already included two All-Ohio Valley Conference selections ? Jennifer Corral, who received an honorable mention nod, and Catherine Armwood, who was named to the All-OVC Freshman Team. The roster also boasts three more experienced returners ? sophomores Jade Cabell (Springfield, Tenn.) and Thereza Wright (El Paso, Texas) and senior Kristin King (East St. Louis, Ill.). ?Preseason is going really well. We have a lot of new faces so we are looking for the right combination and chemistry between the newcomers and returners to have a great season,? Reese said. ?We are looking forward to getting the season started this weekend.? The Lady Tigers open the 2003 season against Bethune Cookman on Friday at 4 p.m. and conclude play on Saturday with matches against Jackson State at 10 a.m. and host-Troy State at Noon.
